The pilot City Lab Intensive is a voluntary, week-long orientation experience open to all entering non-AOP graduate students - a maximum of 30 students will be accepted. Six interdisciplinary teams of five students each will work alongside a lead faculty and six teaching assistants, engaged in a series of hands on activities that will have them exploring the City of Boston, primarily by foot.

Scope and Focus:

Students will engage with each other to explore, discuss, and analyze environs surrounding BAC's immediate neighborhood, as well as a limited number of significant sites accessible via public transportation, within Boston City limits. Hands on activities and the reflective sharing of group experiences will be aligned with a limited number of guest presentations from design practitioners and members of community and/or municipal organizations whose work has concentrated on community design and development. As an introduction to their BAC concurrent education, students will develop a strong sense of discovery and scrutiny, a curiosity and appreciation for learning outside the classroom in a personal, applied manner, where collaborative teambuilding is essential.

This option is offered for the first time in the fall of 2012 as a pilot program to be implemented for all incoming students in all on-site programs and at both the graduate and undergraduate levels in the fall of 2013.
