Student support takes a variety of forms, and students are encouraged to make use of any resources that will best help them excel at the BAC and in Practice.
Each semester, Practice advertises and offers a variety of design projects that allow students to engage in design project with peers, community members, and design professionals. These opportunities allow students to expand their skill sets, develop portfolio evidence, and gain valuable experience that make them more marketable in their job search. For more information about current Gateway Projects, please contact our office.
Practice Advising Appointments
Staff members are available to meet with students for individualized job search advisement and career counseling, including resume, cover letter, and portfolio critique. Practice is also available to work with students prior to interviews and to help them prepare through mock interviewing. Additionally, students are encouraged to schedule appointments with Practice to gather information about licensure, Practice educational reviews & requirements, departmental policies & procedures, and/or transcript issues relating to Practice credits.
PracticeLab is an online job board where local employers post full-time, part-time, paid and unpaid jobs for BAC students. All positions posted on PracticeLab are assigned a Skill Level, and only students who are at the appropriate Skill Level or one higher or lower, are able to apply for the position. All current degree students have access to PracticeLab as well as BAC alumni. New students will be contacted after the start of their first semester with a username and password for logging into the system.
For assistance with your account, please contact our department. Please note that your PracticeLab login information is different from your Self Service login information.
Practice Student Handbook
This handbook provides BAC students with a comprehensive overview of Practice requirements and policies. All students are advised to review this handbook periodically and as they have questions about Practice educational requirements.
Practice Student Handbook
Since 1985, the Practice Department has conducted a compensation survey that focuses on important issues affecting students during the Practice portion of their concurrent design studies. This survey is designed to help both students and employers better understand the diversity of BAC students' experiences, and give them a sense of the overall market wages and benefits for the design field. This survey can help with salary negotiations, performance reviews, determination of benefits packages, and more.
Workshops & Events
Practice sponsors periodic workshops and events focused on job search skills, licensure, and career development. Practice is also involved in Year One Seminar for concurrent and AOP students to help students understand Practice requirements and transition into concurrency.
The Learning Resource Center
Students are also encouraged to make use of the Learning Resource Center (+1-617-585-0174, email@example.com) which tutors students in every subject offered at the BAC and also assists students with resumes, cover letters, and portfolios.
The Mentoring Program connects current BAC students with alumni, staff, academic & Practice faculty, advanced students, board members, and overseers. These relationships help students adjust academically, personally, and in Practice. For more information, please contact firstname.lastname@example.org.
