Curriculum

The student moves through three phases in their course of study: Segment I is a Foundation program in which visual design skills are gained. The studio learning environment begins with design principles in an interdisciplinary setting, from which the student progresses to interior design-focused projects. Design media skills, including both hand-drawing and computer software, are taught alongside the studios.

In Segment II, Integration, students take advanced studios in interior design and apply principles of color, sustainable design and building systems in their work.

In Segment III, Synthesis, the student completes a two-semester Degree Project, a comprehensive design exploration encompassing the full range of skills and knowledge acquired in the program.

Segments I and II each culminate in a portfolio, submitted to the faculty for review and approval to move to the next level. The student is expected to begin working in the interior design industry by the third semester of the program, and continue in concurrent practice with the goal of accumulating 3600 hours of work experience and a practice skill level of 8 (see Practice). For a full-time student, this program can be completed in 10 semesters.
