The pilot City Lab Intensive was a voluntary, week-long orientation experience for graduate students, scheduled to become a required course for all incoming students, starting in the fall 2013.
Scope and Focus:
Students engaged with each other to explore, discuss, and analyze environs surrounding BAC's immediate neighborhood, as well as a limited number of significant sites accessible via public transportation, within Boston City limits. Hands on activities and the reflective sharing of group experiences were aligned with a series of guest presentations from design practitioners and knowledgeable members of community, whose work has concentrated on community design and development. As an introduction to their BAC concurrent education, students developed a strong sense of discovery and scrutiny, a curiosity and appreciation for learning outside the classroom in a personal, applied manner, where collaborative teambuilding was essential.
