Material Matters: Digital Provocations explores material limits and capacities through the BAC's emerging spaces of fabrication. The exhibition features BAC student projects from design workshops and studios where students were challenged to think differently about drawing and making - experimenting with new techniques in representation and making to test their assumptions and create material discoveries. Students and faculty members questioned the nature of designing architectural space and elements using new workflows; students reflected on the effects of their physical models and reincorporated the learning into their next design iteration. The featured work ranges from the handheld to building proposals. Each artefact alerts us to a novel interaction and fresh experience of inhabitation.
The exhibition represents collaborative experiments from a number of BAC courses including Screen Walls taught by Matt Trimble, Outside the Bot taught by Charles Garcia and Levi Tofias, Material Digital taught by Greg Nemes and Levi Tofias, Computing Drawing Space by Carl Lostritto, and Digital Surgeon taught by Youngjin Lee and Seunghyun Kim. Many of these courses were supported by the BAC's Education Committee [EdCo] grants.
