Jersey Devil Design/Build

Jersey Devil Design/Build

Jersey Devil is a group of designer-builders who have created projects that critique conventional practice, both the process of making architecture and the accepted definitions of architecture itself.

The BAC Alumni Association was pleased to welcome that on Friday, March 13, 2009, at 7:00 PM, Architect Steve Badanes delivered the 17th Cascieri lecture titled "Jersey Devil: Architect as Artisan" in Cascieri Hall.

Steve is a founder of Jersey Devil, an architectural firm comprised of skilled craftsmen, architects, and inventors and an expert on energy-efficient building techniques. Jersey Devil architects/builders live on-site during construction of their designs, which are known for the energy efficient and innovative use of materials. Their work has been the subject of two books: The Jersey Devil Design/Build Book (1985) and Devil's Workshop: 25 Years of Jersey Devil Architecture (1997). Steve's published writing includes: The Home House Project: The Future of Affordable Housing.
