Kyle Sturgeon is the Director of Advanced Architecture Studios and Building Technology curriculum and a coordinator of the CNC Lab and woodshop at The Boston Architectural College. Kyle is a registered architect, licensed construction supervisor, and design educator hailing from Virginia.
Kyle holds a BS.Arch with honors from the University of Virginia and a Master of Architecture with high distinction from the University of Michigan, where he was awarded the Alpha Rho Chi Medal, the AIA Henry Adams Certificate, and Thesis Prize. Before joining the BAC as faculty and administrator, he earned a Certificate in Design Education and worked with Boston-based firms Office Da, Kennedy & Violich Architecture, and Moshe Safdie Architects.
Kyle is a founding partner of the open-source design education website SectionCut.com. His educational research investigates tactical pedagogies, demystification of the design process, and design-thinking as a form of empowerment for new constituencies. Kyle's design research investigates intersections of systems + aesthetics, ecology + infrastructure, and energy + capital to elicit novel architectural solutions. His work—produced though writing, mixed media representation, and hybrids of analog and digital craft—relies strongly on atmosphere and narrative to convey design intent.
