The Boston Architectural College, Bachelor of Architecture, 1991
Stephen Sousa '91, AIA is an accomplished architect and a leader in the hospitality industry. He has been practicing design for over twenty years, most recently as President and Owner of Sousa Design Architects which he founded in 1998. Stephen and his team have designed some of Boston's most popular dining and nightlife destinations, including The Gallows in the city's South End, Mini Bar in the Copley Square Hotel, and NOCHE, which features hand-blown Italian pendants that mimic a starry sky, and wall sculptures to illustrate the phases of the moon.
In addition to their creative use of lighting and materials, Steven and his firm are well known for their innovative applications of technology. They recently worked with Joe's American Bar and Grill on Newbury Street to convert the site's existing greenhouse into a four-season patio with a retractable roof - a feature that diners will not find anywhere else in the city.
Stephen earned a Bachelor in Architecture from the BAC in 1991 and was nominated and selected to receive the 2010 Alumni in Practice Award for Architecture by his Alumni peers who gratefully acknowledged his creative design work and exemplary success in the hospitality field.
