Students from the BAC and Tufts University have formed a unique partnership: Team Boston, one of twenty collegiate teams from around the world (and the only team from New England), chosen to compete in the bi-annual Solar Decathlon sponsored by the US Department of Energy and the National Renewable Energy Laboratory. The goal of the competition is to design and build the most marketable, attractive, effective, and completely energy-efficient 800-square-foot solar-powered house. This October, all twenty of these homes will be constructed and showcased as part of a “solar village” on the National Mall in Washington D.C.  250,000 visitors to the Mall are expected and one billion media hits worldwide for this competition!

The level of commitment to the goals of this project by the students, faculty, staff and volunteers of both the BAC and Tufts, is nothing short of extraordinary. The project is focused not only on innovative design and construction techniques, but also on curriculum development, public outreach and education on the value and importance of sustainability, and effecting long-term public policy change on sustainability and environmental issues. Team Boston is building a house that not only addresses the specifics of green design, but also looks to engage and educate the Greater Boston community about quality of life and sustainable living issues.

With your help we will be able to secure the necessary building materials, appliances, construction equipment and financial resources necessary for construction of the house and transportation of the house and crew to Washington D.C. this fall. We urge you to become a part of the growing network of alumni, individuals, families and businesses dedicated to furthering the idea and principles of sustainable living.  Visit us at http://www.livecurio.us and click on one of the buttons below to make a gift in support of Team Boston today.
