Summer Academy Field Trips

Using the city of Boston as our urban lab, Summer Academy students explore buildings, public parks, and urban street patterns to develop an understanding of the multiple layers of human intervention that have shaped the city. We also visit design offices where students are able to review projects with architects, landscape architects and urban designers, learning about the design process as it proceeds from an idea to a project on the ground. Students are asked to look closely as they move about the city and to form their own image of the city of Boston, drawing on its past and current patterns to imagine what it might be like in the future.
