Taking Action to Protect Our International Students

Message from President Mahesh Daas

Lastest Updates on BAC's Response to ICE Order

Dear BAC community,

As President of The Boston Architectural College and as an immigrant myself, my message today speaks to the heart of our entire community with a special focus for our international students.

I know each of you feel many emotions in the wake of yesterday's restrictive guidance for online instruction to international students, including confusion and uncertainty as well as disappointment and concern about the future. We stand as one community in being outraged and shocked by the sudden and careless stance toward international students and educational institutions.

I too have walked in your shoes. When I arrived in this country 30 years ago, I was bewildered by the challenges of navigating life as an international student. I empathize with how daunting the current circumstances are for you.

I offer my heartfelt assurance that we will provide all possible options to allow you to continue your education while we navigate this situation together. Our incredible and caring faculty, staff, alumni, and trustees-around the globe-stand with you to support you every step of the way as we wade through these turbulent waters.

We are in touch with organizations who are already mobilized to advocate for you:

All have been actively planning on countering the restrictive guidance. We will work toward creating a solution based on the emerging consensus from the higher education leadership.

As I mentioned to you last month, I have spoken to Senators Elizabeth Warren and Ed Markey as well as Congresswoman Katherine Clark about the ongoing issues facing international students. We will ensure our senators and representatives are fully informed about the immense negative impact these decisions have on our international students, and the appreciation for their advocacy at this critical moment.

I have also convened an emergency meeting of our College's leadership team to assess the situation and explore all options. I will continue to keep you informed on a regular basis. Our solutions will be pragmatic and community-oriented; we will continue to put your health and safety first while rejecting the xenophobic sentiments underpinning yesterday's decree.

I welcome you to reach out to us with any questions at, and I ask the entire BAC community to show support of your fellow students and let them know #WeAreInThisTogether and #YouAreWelcomeHere!
