Jesús Emmanuel Nieves is an interdisciplinary designer, educator, and academic leader with more than 11 years of experience across architecture, interior design, retail, hospitality, and design education. His work bridges professional practice and the academy, with a focus on preparing students to think critically, design with purpose, and engage confidently with the evolving realities of the design profession.
Prior to joining Boston Architectural College, Jesús served as Program Director and Teaching Assistant Professor of Interior Design at East Carolina University, where he led curriculum development, accreditation initiatives, industry engagement, and student-centered academic strategies. Under his guidance, students earned national design recognition, including major competition awards, and the program strengthened its visibility through accreditation work, professional partnerships, and published student outcomes connected to CIDA-aligned learning.
Jesús’s leadership is grounded in people: students, collaborators, faculty, industry partners, and the communities shaped by design. He believes that strong design education happens when students are challenged to test ideas, connect research to making, and move from conceptual thinking into professional execution. His teaching and leadership emphasize practice-based learning, material exploration, visual communication, sustainability, and the confidence needed to translate academic work into real-world impact.
In his role at Boston Architectural College, Jesús brings a commitment to rigorous, human-centered design education, global design engagement, and the continued integration of professional practice into the classroom. He is excited to support the next generation of interior architects and designers as they develop the skills, voice, and vision to shape meaningful spaces.
