A graduate of The Boston Architectural College and former Thesis Advisor from 1999 to 2014, Nathaniel May, AIA, NCARB, CSL, B.Arch'96, draws on his leadership experience with the Northeast Sustainable Energy Association (NESEA) and advanced training from the Passive House Institute U.S. to help clients create homes that are not just beautiful but also healthy, durable, and resilient.
With a rich career spanning 35 years in architecture, building, and carpentry, Nat holds AIA, NCARB, and CSL credentials. He excels in integrating cutting-edge technology with proven construction methods to deliver sustainable and energy-efficient contributions to the built environment.
In 2000, he first launched his own architecture firm, mStudio, where his work took him across the world. His projects included mixed-use, hotel and resort, transit-oriented development, and multi-family housing in locations as diverse as Boston, Worcester, Kazakhstan, Grenada, the Cayman Islands, Belize, Jeju Island (South Korea), and the Black Sea.
In 2005, he founded AURORA Architects + Builders, which he named after the boat The Aurora, where he honed his early building skills as a young boy and where his family lived for seven years, sailing from the Chesapeake Bay to Florida and the Caribbean. AURORA focuses on finely crafted, high performance, and sustainable architecture and construction. Under Nat’s leadership as CEO, AURORA has become known for producing exceptional work with integrity and enthusiasm.
Nat has been a champion of the Massachusetts passive house movement since before it was popular. When he’s not shaping the future of architecture and construction, Nat plays drums in two local bands and continues his passion for sailing.
