After teaching at the BAC as an adjunct instructor since 2017, Peter Atwood joined the Boston Architectural College in 2019 as core faculty. As Director of Digita Media, Peter oversees curriculum, coursework, and faculty supervision in support of all of the college's programs. He also provides educational vision and direction for the application of digital representation and design technology.
Before joining the BAC Peter received a Master of Architecture and worked professionally with a variety of Architecture firms and practitioners while teaching part-time. Subsequently, he decided to focus on digital media within academic environments for which Peter crafting a unique jointly hired position as instructor and researcher in the Architecture & Landscape Architecture and Visual Arts Departments at North Dakota State University, his alma mater. His diverse digitally-focused teaching and projects during this time pursued 'real-world' outcomes and measurable education, including a 3-year long grant-funded research/admin role as Technology Lead for a community energy reduction initiative. The university/city collaboration titled 'efargo' participated and won the $5 Million National Georgetown University Energy Prize Competition.
Peter's Master's thesis, titled "Parametric Animation", focused on investigating new digital design structures in order to situate them within historical and future narratives that explore the space between information and technology. He continues to teach, direct and research new pedagogical models to engage the divide between digital media and physical making.
