2026 Fall Lecture Series: Maryann Thompson

Thinking Through Making explores the work of Maryann Thompson Architect. The work will be looked at through the lens of architecture’s craft tradition and through the thought process engendered through its making and direct subjective experience. We will encounter projects such as The Walden Pond Visitor’s Center and Bathhouse in Lincoln, MA, The Children's School in Stamford, CT, The Arnold Arboretum Outdoor Classroom and Vine Trellises, in Jamaica Plain, MA, and The Oaks on Martha’s Vineyard, MA.

Maryann Thompson, FAIA, brings to her practice an interdisciplinary approach where issues of site, landscaping, and sustainability are central to her design thinking. One of her Awards from AIA states that Maryann has made a significant contribution to architecture. Her work reconnects architecture with the landscape and celebrates tectonics, materials, and a poetic approach to design. Maryann taught studios as a Professor in Practice of Architecture at Harvard University’s Graduate School of Design from 2002-2017. She has also taught design as a visiting faculty member at Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Rhode Island School of Design, University of Virginia, University of Michigan, and Rice University. She founded Maryann Thompson Architects in 2000. Prior to that, Maryann was a founding partner of Thompson and Rose Architects.
