2026 Fall Lecture Series: Matt Hyatt

Architecture is often framed as the work of a single author. The reality is far more collaborative. Through stories of collective authorship and the moments where shared input transformed outcomes, this talk examines how co-creation, open dialogue, and productive friction with clients and communities lead to better spaces and richer experiences for both collaborators and end users.

Matt Hyatt is a Principal at Bergmeyer and one of the firm's most inventive design thinkers, equally at home generating ideas and building the consensus needed to move them forward. Over more than 33 years, he has been a driving force in shaping Bergmeyer into the design collaborative it is today, pushing the firm to think beyond architecture and embrace the full spectrum of design thinking, from strategic research and brand experience to spatial concept and built reality.

Matt holds a Master of Architecture from the GSD and a Bachelor of Architecture from Cornell, and is a past President of IIDA New England, where he remains active in advocacy for the legal recognition of commercial interior designers in Massachusetts.

Outside the studio, Matt channels the same design thinking and collaborative instincts into his Brookline community, serving as Chair of the Planning Board and Town Meeting Member, focused on shaping the town's zoning evolution and fostering a more vibrant public realm for all residents.
