We are excited to announce that Janet Echelman will be the special guest speaker at our Student Scholarship Dinner on December 6 at The Boston Society of Architects.

Janet Echelman is a world-renowned sculptor and fiber artist whose work intersects Sculpture, Architecture, Urban Design, Material Science, Structural & Aeronautical Engineering, and Computer Science. Echelman's art transforms spaces, with sculptures towering over streets and buildings. "Using unlikely materials from aramid fiber to atomized water particles, Echelman combines ancient craft with computational design software to create artworks that have become focal points for urban life on five continents, from Singapore, Sydney, Shanghai, and Santiago, to Beijing, Boston, New York and London."

Echelman graduated from Harvard College where she completed separate graduate programs in Painting and Psychology. She is also the recipient of an honorary Doctorate from Tufts University.

Echelman's TED talk "Taking Imagination Seriously" has more than two million views and has been translated into 35 languages. She is also the recipient of the Guggenheim Fellowship, Harvard Loeb Fellowship, the Smithsonian American Ingenuity Award in Visual Arts; ranked #1 on Oprah's List of 50 Things That Make You Say Wow!, and was named an Architectural Digest Innovator for "changing the very essence of urban spaces".
