The Boston Architectural College is pleased to announce the success of the first Spring into Design Gala to benefit the College. Over 250 guests attended the sustainability themed event at the Innovation and Design Building in the Seaport District on Thursday, April 23 to show their support for the BAC.

The Spring into Design Gala is the BAC's new premier fundraising event of the year, raising a record amount of over $200,000 in support of the College's mission to offer an accessible design education. The inaugural gala's theme explored urban sustainability and what it means for the community and the future of design practices.

"This has been an exciting year for the BAC," said Julia Halevy, Acting President of the BAC. "We are very grateful for the support from old and new friends of the BAC.  The Spring into Design Gala exemplifies the BAC's innovation and we plan to make it a long standing tradition at the College."

The event itself was entirely sustainable; it had all the glamor and fun without the waste. Instead of cut flower arrangements, the BAC partnered with the Boston Parks and Recreation Department to feature potted plants and trees that will eventually be planted in the Public Garden. Guests were given a custom wine glass, which could be reused throughout the night. Recycling and compost were stations were set-up throughout the space. Lastly, over 25 local and sustainable companies provided food and beverage for the evening, setting up tasting stations throughout the venue.

The night featured a silent auction with nearly twenty packages containing items ranging from trips to Red Sox tickets to custom furniture to wines, and more. Guests enjoyed breathtaking views of the Boston skyline at sunset while listening to the music of Underground Mantra and tasting specialty foods and drinks.

Guests included architects, interior designers, landscape architects, builders, developers, engineers, City Councilor Josh Zakim, State Representatives Chris Walsh and Daniel Ryan, BAC Trustees, Overseers, faculty, and importantly, students.

"On behalf of the Boston Architectural College, I want to thank all of our generous sponsors and contributors whose generosity and support made this event a great success," said Marc Pelletier, Chair of the Board of Trustees. "This gala celebrates the BAC's energy and growth and I am proud to have served as the Chair of the Board of Trustees at this inaugural event."

Over 50 local companies and individuals sponsored the event, including gold level sponsors Century Bank, Arthur J. Hurley Company, Elkus Manfredi Architects, John Moriarty & Associates, Inc., and Turner Construction Company. The event was Co-Chaired by BAC Alumni David and Felice Silverman.
