Honoring Our Place. Designing What's Next.

Boston Architectural College. RED 2026. Reframe. Envision. Design.

For more than 137 years, The Boston Architectural College (BAC) has challenged convention, expanded access to design education, and connected learning with practice to prepare generations of architects, designers, and changemakers.

In 2026, the BAC community will gather to celebrate a defining milestone: 60 years at 320 Newbury Street.

Join us for RED 2026, an unforgettable evening bringing together alumni, students, faculty, staff, friends, and leaders from across the design community to celebrate our shared history and look ahead to the future of architecture and design education.

What is RED 2026?

RED stands for rededication.

It is a celebration of our home, our community, and our future.

For six decades, 320 Newbury Street has been the place where BAC students have discovered their passions, faculty have challenged convention, alumni have built careers, and generations of designers have prepared to shape the built environment.

RED 2026 honors this legacy while reaffirming the BAC’s commitment to expanding access to design education and preparing designers to create a more sustainable, equitable, and resilient world.

A Place Designed for Possibility

In 1963, the BAC launched an international competition to design a new school building at 320 Newbury Street. Nearly 100 designs and models were submitted, including entries by architects and firms who would go on to shape late twentieth-century architecture, among them Fumihiko Maki, Peter Eisenman, Michael Graves, and Cambridge Seven Associates. The proposal by Ashley, Myer and Associates was ultimately selected for its bold modernist vision.

Dedicated in 1966, 320 Newbury Street was created as more than a place to study—it was designed as a place for ideas, collaboration, and innovation. In 1979, artist Richard Haas added another defining element with his 50-foot architectural trompe l’oeil mural on the building’s west side.

For 60 years, 320 Newbury Street has been a physical expression of the BAC’s mission and a home for generations of designers.
