The Sustainable Design Institute

The Sustainable Design Institute at the BAC is dedicated to helping students learn the practices, processes, and materials to create a truly sustainable built environment.

Sustainable Design Programs

We offer fully online, graduate-level courses in a range of subjects: from designing, constructing, and operating buildings to planning communities.

Courses are offered during 8-week sessions in the fall, spring and summer semesters, and can be taken individually or as part of the Sustainable Design Certificate.

Many courses are AIA-approved for continuing education Learning Units.

Sustainable Design Courses are:

  • Asynchronous: Students can enter the virtual classroom according to their individual daily schedule.
  • Instructor-led: Students are able to engage with the building industry experts who develop and teach the courses.
  • Interactive: The interactive nature exposes students to the ideas and experiences of each other, as well as to those of the instructor.
  • Small: Class sizes are limited to 15 students, making manageable and meaningful discussions possible.

Our faculty are experienced sustainable design practitioners that include architects, engineers, research professionals, landscape architects, interior designers, planners, green building consultants, and authors.
