We invite the community to visit the McCormick Gallery for weekly gallery talks as an informal way to engage with the BAC’s featured exhibit: Architecture is Within Us: The Selected Works of Balkrishna Doshi. Expand your thinking about housing, design, and local culture through this original exhibition commissioned by the BAC and curated by Khushnu Panthaki Hoof.

We are excited to offer this Doshi Exhibit Gallery Talk as part of this year's 10th Annual Boston Design Week's.

Please join BAC’s Dean of Architecture, Karen Nelson,  along with our special guest speaker, Minakshi M. Amundsen, Executive Director, Campus Planning and Development at Tufts University. Minakshi's talk “Architecture As Offering” focuses on expanding upon the concept in both building as well as urban design.

Minakshi M. Amundsen

Minakshi Amundsen is the Executive Director of Campus Planning and Development at Tufts University, overseeing planning, capital projects, real estate, renewal and infrastructure planning for all four campuses.

Minakshi's work has focused on directing transformative planning and design of built and natural environments in both rural and urban settings. Her design philosophy is integrative - weaving in space, buildings, landscape, ecology and infrastructure with inclusion, community, and sustainability. This approach was shaped by her education at CEPT, learning from Prof. Doshi, drawing from her heritage growing up in various parts of India, and research into other cultural and architectural contexts. Minakshi has presented at conferences, guest lectures and publications, and actively participated in her communities to promote affordable housing and environmental conservation.

Minakshi has an undergraduate architecture degree from CEPT, and master’s degrees in architectural studies and city planning from MIT. She has over 20 years of experience with several institutions of higher education including Colby College, Cornell University, Harvard, and MIT. Prior to graduate studies in the US, she practiced architecture in India for eight years.

About the Exhibit

This original exhibit holds nine significant projects from the work of Pritzker-prize winning architect, Balkrishna Doshi. These projects draw inspiration from natural systems and from Doshi’s dreams. Doshi’s work aims to amend disparities between people. Steel sections with scale figures in this exhibit show daily life captured in a moment that makes connections to and through one another.
