The Boston Architectural College is pleased to announce that Christina Oliver, ASID, was honored with the Alumni in Practice Award for Interior Design. She was nominated and selected to receive the award by her alumni peers for her distinguished work in the interior design profession.

"For 20 years, Christina has been a prominent figure in the Boston interior design community," said Felice Silverman, '92, IIDA, president and principal at Silverman Trykowski Associates. "She has demonstrated her commitment to the profession as a designer in her own successful practice, an educator, mentor, and leader in professional associations and initiatives."

The BAC Alumni Association presents two Practice Awards annually to alumni who have made significant contributions to the design community. Alumni who receive this award are considered to be those who bring honor to their professions and provide exemplary service in the fields of architecture and interior design.

Christina earned a certificate in Interior Design from the BAC in 1990 after an accomplished career in social work. She currently owns and operates Oliver Interiors, LLC, the interior design practice she founded in 1991. "Design and social work are actually closely connected," said Christina. "In fact, my husband is fond of saying that as a social worker I used to help people work on their interior interiors, but now as an interior designer I help them work on their exterior interiors."

Christina uses expertise that she developed before entering the world of design to create a highly collaborative environment that has become the signature of her practice. She believes that one of her roles as a designer is to help each of her clients find a personal voice in the design process.

Oliver Interiors, LLC serves the residential market, working collaboratively with architects and artisans to design stylish, functional spaces that reflect clients' tastes and needs. Christina's designs have been featured in a variety of publications including This Old House Magazine, The Boston Globe, and Boston Magazine. Her work has been featured on HGTV as well as on local television programming.

She has also emerged as a leader in a variety of professional organizations, including her role on the founding committee of the International Interior Design Association (New England Chapter) Business Leaders Forum and her eight subsequent years of service, as well as her past role as president of the New England Chapter of the American Society of Interior Designers. She is the current president of the Massachusetts Interior Design Coalition, a nonprofit group that seeks to advance the status and standards of the interior design industry within the state.

Christina has dedicated her time and expertise to the BAC as a thesis representative, a member of the Interior Design Advisory Board, and a mentor to students.
