The Boston Architectural College is pleased to share the success of the BAC Fashion Show student team at the International Interior Design Association (IIDA) New England Fashion Show Benefit Gala held on Thursday, October 23, 2014 at the Boston Convention and Exhibition Center. The BAC's collection, GreeNouveau, was an expression of this year's theme: Adaptation, how will you respond?

In an innovative exhibition of fashion and design, firms and design schools throughout New England took their latest styles to the runway to model a variety of fabrics and materials by industry partners. The BAC's team partnered with Armstrong Flooring to transform donated flooring materials into high fashion design for the runway, modeled by BAC students Hannah Smith, Bachelor of Interior Architecture, and Andrea Elia, Master of Architecture.

The BAC's team design conveyed sustainability and adapting to the evolving climate with their slogan: "We've found a way back to our origins, revealed in the whiplash curves of GreeNoveau. The solution lies in the roots. Grow. Reuse. Evolve. Embrace. Nurture. Adopt it!"

Preparations for the Fashion Show began in the spring of 2014. The BAC team, led by Interior Architecture student Luis Fernando Araque, and instructor, Andy Vieira, dedicated at least two nights a week to work on brainstorming, design, building, and execution. All students involved in the project earned Practice Credits for their work.

"For the first time this year we had a multi-disciplinary team of interior architecture, architecture, and design studies students collaborating in the design and production of our entry," commented Luis Fernando Araque, 2014 BAC IIDA Fashion Show Team Leader. "One of my main goals was to provide and opportunity for students to learn skills needed to advance in practice within the BAC. Students were able to learn how to use the fabrication equipment available at the BAC, and are now able to apply this knowledge to their individual projects."

There were over twenty submissions featured in this year's fashion show, including teams from ADD inc, Sasaki, Gensler, Knoll, NBBJ, Mount Ida College, MDS, SG&A, Endicott College, Perkins+Will, BKA Architects, Bergmeyer, New England School of Art and Design, MPA, Nelson, Wentworth Institute of Technology, Dyer Brown, SMMA, CBT, Packard, Visnick + Caulfield, and more.

Bergmeyer took home the top prizes of "Best in Show" and "Audience Choice" for their design Somewhere Over the Dark Side of the Rainbow, a creative adaptation of the Wizard of Oz.

The BAC has sponsored a team at the annual IIDA fashion show since 2011. In 2013, the BAC's submission tied for Best School Entry. All students across each discipline have the opportunity to get involved.
