Default design and construction processes often assume a sequence where massing precedes form, form precedes material, specified materials “belong” to one discipline or another, and the eventual choices of materials become products subject to ongoing alternatives. Given that the non-architectural public often seeks resonance and meaning in the experience of materials and craft, why not pursue such considerations simultaneously rather than sequentially?
