Mark Virello

Mark Virello is a finance executive with over 35 years of experience in nonprofit higher education institutions. He has successfully executed initiatives to increase revenue, reduce costs, and improve brands through financial stability and improved performance. His areas of expertise include business and strategic planning, new business development, financial reporting, accounting, budgeting, administrative operations, and treasury.

Mark is currently the chief financial officer at The Boston Architectural College (BAC). In this role he is responsible for finance, business, and administrative–related functions. Prior to the BAC, he was the CFO at Labouré College, where he helped the college improve its financial standing, disaffiliate from a sponsor organization, and move to a new location. During his tenure at Labouré, the college procured its first tax-exempt financing, restructured its tuition structure, implemented an institution-wide information system, and transitioned its Board.

Prior to Labouré, Mark was the vice president for financial and administrative affairs and treasurer at Wiberforce University, where he helped the institution design and build new facilities, procure favorable tax-exempt financing via an innovative relationship with a regional bank, and implement a new academic initiative which increased enrollment and captured a different student body. Prior to Wilberforce, he was the controller at New England College.

Mark is also a board trustee at the Tremont School, a burgeoning, progressive, private school located in Eastern Massachusetts. Previously, he was a board member at PLACES. PLACES cares for adults diagnosed with mental health disorders, including the homeless, by providing housing and support services.

Virello holds a BS in Management Science from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, NY, and an MBA from Wright State University in Fairborn, OH. He has coached skiing and soccer at the college level, enjoys cycling, and lives in the Boston, MA area.
